There are as many kinds of Christianity out there as you can possibly imagine. There are super strict sects. There are those who are more loose. There are groups incredibly focused on social justice, and there are others who don’t want to spend time there. There are some who strongly value speaking out and sharing their faith, and there are those who would rather not impose. We’ll come back to this later, but this is actually quite a beautiful thing.
But one thing that tends to stand out for me as a dividing line is how many Christians view God’s interactions with us. Is God angry? Does God disapprove of what you do, your lifestyle? Is God simply unconcerned about us? Has God let the world spin on without much intervention or fanfare?
I don’t think so. My read of the Bible is that God is not only invested in human affairs, God is fundamentally on our side. God desires your success. God desires your growth. God desires your wellbeing. God, simply put, is on your side.
This isn’t to say that everything you do comes with a Divine stamp of approval. Lord knows that a cursory glance at the news would give God plenty to be frustrated with. But in the end God is for you and desires your success. What could you do with that knowledge in your back pocket?
