Welcome back to an old J-Blog tradition! Each week, we will comb through the stories shared here on the J-Blog and around the internet to bring you the very finest of offerings. If you think someone else should have been nominated for a star, leave their name/feat of strength in the comments below. Here are this week's winners:
3rd Star: Ebay and Twinkies
On Wednesday, during a routine filming of the J and Ed Variety Show, I mentioned that my family has ties to the invention of the Twinkie. Being fool hardy and not remembering that they are not defunct, I promised to bring a box of Twinkies to the Veritas Pool Party on September 11th. Thankfully, on eBay you can purchase a box of Twinkies, which retailed back in the day for $4, for the reasonable price of $20. Thanks internet!
2nd Star: High School Students.
Wednesday night was our return to Veritas. Well, return might be a strong word. We had 17 students in attendance, whereas we usually have in the 40s or 50s.
As I started asking around where everyone else was, I think it's a miracle that we had 17 kids. Soccer. Cheerleading. Marching Band. Football. Football. Football. Kids that would otherwise have been with us were out at practices and rehearsals of all kinds. These kids balance their school work, family obligations, friendships, and faith with these activities in a way that I never had to dream of, and for that they should be commended. Way to go!
1st Star: The "Granny Gear"
This Sunday, a few students and I will be tackling Pedal Pittsburgh. This is a 62.5 mile ride through the horrible hills of Pittsburgh, including Troy Hill and the mammoth South Side Slopes. Praise be that ProBikes in the South Hills set me up with a gear ratio better equipped for climbing. I have a sinking suspicion that I'll be in the "granny gear" more often than not on Sunday morning!
