This has been one honey of a week:
Saturday: The wall rebuild project gets underway. We do not finish.
Sunday: Confirmation Sunday for the spring session, and also I can't walk on account of all the wall-tearing-down.
Monday: Clean up from the wall project, school.
Tuesday: About 10,000 meetings, which were all good, but time consuming.
Wednesday: Veritas, plus a bunch of stuff getting ready for Confirmation Sunday this week for everybody.
Today: A hospital visit in the morning, lunch with a member of the congregation, an interview for something at the seminary, and two classes. Somewhere in there I need to write a paper.
It's been nuts. The normal kind of nuts, with extra sprinkles. I hate every second of it. I am blessed beyond reason to have the opportunities that I have, but it is clear at the moment that I have entered into a busy-ness that I so often speak against. While it's only for a season, it takes its toll.
That's why tonight, at 10:20 PM, I will be watching Avengers: Age of Ultron. I bought my tickets yesterday. Just me, no one else. This, my friends, is me time.
We need me time every now and again. Some of us are addicted to the busy season like some kind of bad drug. We crave being busy as if being busy somehow gives us status and prestige. It doesn't. It really only makes us tired. But some of us aren't addicted to busy-ness, we just find ourselves in a particular season that we wish would end. I am so there. June cannot get here soon enough.
When that's the case, it's more critical than ever to make sure that you take time out for yourself. Sure, it might feel selfish. It is. Sure, you might have to actually make the time. You will. But it's still super critical.
If you find yourself in a busy season, do yourself a favor and set aside some me time this week. Do something you enjoy. Do something that will excite you. Do something that will make you happy. Even if it means saying no to something else on the schedule. You'll be super glad you did.
